ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE Of SYRACUSE OFFICE OF THE BISHOP '
January 27, 2012
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I write to you concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States directly, and that strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith. The federal government, which claims to be “of, by, and for the people,” has just dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people - the Catholic population —— and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful.
The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.

The new template from Open Parish Website Distribution is operational. A template is the look and feel that is placed around the content. It is sort of like the body and paint job of a car (as opposed to the engine).
The links will be migrating from the sidebar to the tab bar near the top. I am going to be organizing the site into major categories. Thank you for your patience during this transition period.

The website, that is.
This website was operational for the former Blessed Sacrament Parish since 2003. This means we have been going strong for almost a decade. As of the last Parish Council meeting, we have a new committee called the Internet Presence Committee. This can be responsible not only for the website, but for any official St. Vincent DePaul / Blessed Sacrament presence on the internet.
In honor of the official recognition, I will be implementing a new theme (look and feel). It will be cleaner, more modern and hopefully easier to navigate.

Last Saturday, December 10, was a bittersweet day for me. My church building was closed. I'm being very careful with the wording because it was the building that was closed, not the faith community, and though the Bishop was the one who made the final decision, it was smoothed over by the cooperation of the parishioners of the former Blessed Sacrament faith community.
